(IDAHO FALLS, ID) – A convicted murderer’s request for a reduced prison sentence was denied Wednesday. Adan Arroyo, who shot Kristy Aschliman to death in Bonneville County in 2013, was sentenced to 25 years to life.

Arroyo’s attorney argued that his 23-year-old client deserved a second chance, and that a 15-year sentence would be more appropriate. District Judge Jon Schinderling ruled that his original minimum sentence of 25 years fit the severity and brutality of Arroyo’s actions.

Arroyo still has the right to appeal.
