State Official: Pursue Alternatives to College Degree
Published at | Updated at(IDAHO FALLS, ID) – The Idaho State Department of Commerce Director is urging some people to avoid the traditional college experience. Jeff Sayer tells Local News 8 that many people need to get out of the mindset that a four-year degree is the only way to advance, and that trade schools will play a key role in Idaho’s economic future.
Sayer says many of the jobs available don’t require degrees, but still require special skills like welding, mechanical experience, and carpentry.
Officials also want to do a better job of using alumni lists from Idaho universities to keep graduates in the Gem State.
