“The Equalizer” Comes Out Ahead at Box Office

Sony/Columbia(NEW YORK) — Denzel Washington’s The Equalizer won the box office this weekend, unseating The Maze Runner.

The movie, based on the 1980s television show of the same name, also stars Chloe Grace Moretz, Bill Pullman and Melissa Leo. On its opening weekend, The Equalizer more than doubled the week’s second-highest grossing film, bringing in $35 million.

The Maze Runner slipped to second, while newly-opened The Boxtrolls finished in third.
