Utah Doctor Convicted of Murdering Wife Sentenced to Up to Life in Prison
Published at | Updated at(SALT LAKE CITY) — A Utah doctor convicted of killing his wife was sentenced to 17 years to life in prison on Friday.
Martin MacNeill had been found guilty of drugging his wife and drowning her in a bathtub. A jury found MacNeill guilty of persuading his wife to undergo plastic surgery with the intent of giving her drugs during her recovery and drowning her, clearing the way for his purported mistress to move into the family’s home.
Four of MacNeill’s daughters testified during the trial, and one of his oldest children told the jury that she believed her father was guilty.
MacNeill has maintained his innocence, and an appeal is possible.
