Yellowstone Elk Entering Rut
Published at | Updated at(WEST YELLOWSTONE, MT) – Yellowstone National Park officials are cautioning visitors about aggressive bull elk. The animals are entering their annual mating season, which makes visitors especially vulnerable to attacks if they venture too close.
Local News 8 reports that attacks are common in the Mammoth Hot Springs area during the rut. Rangers say visitors should remain at least 25 yards away at all times, and to stay in their vehicles if at all possible.
The elk rut will continue through mid-October.
