Screenwriter Aaron Sorkin confirmed Bale’s involvement to Bloomberg, commenting, “We needed the best actor on the board in a certain age range and that’s Chris Bale.”

Sorkin, who won a screenplay Oscar in 2011 for The Social Network, added, “He didn’t have to audition. Well, there was a meeting.”

Sorkin says that while Bale “has more words to say in this movie than most people have in three movies combined,” he’s confident the actor will “crush it.”

It was reported last week that Bale was in negotiations to star in the currently-untitled film, which is based on the 2011 biography Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson. He’s stepping in for Leonardo DiCaprio, who reportedly dropped out of talks for the lead role.

Danny Boyle, whose directing credits include Slumdog Millionaire and 127 Hours, will helm the project.
