Angelina Jolie Named Honorary Dame by Queen Elizabeth
Published at(LONDON) — Angelina Jolie can add another honor to her list. Queen Elizabeth has made the Oscar-winning actress an honorary dame.
Jolie, a mother of six, was honored Friday inside Buckingham Palace for her work in fighting war-zone sexual violence, along with her work on U.K. foreign policy, according to The Daily Mail.
The honor was first announced last June. Jolie, 39, said at the time, “To receive an honor related to foreign policy means a great deal to me, as it is what I wish to dedicate my working life to.”
It’s rare for a non-U.K. citizen to be so honored. Since Jolie is not a British citizen, she cannot be addressed as ‘Dame’.
A Buckingham Palace spokesperson said, “‘The audience itself between Miss Jolie and the Queen was private. Her Majesty presented her with the insignia in its box. Mr Pitt and the rest of the family were introduced to the Queen afterwards, however.”
Jolie’s keeping busy in the movie business as well. She’s currently filming and directing the film By the Sea with husband Brad Pitt. It’s due in theaters next year.
