The big-box behemoth offended legions of shoppers days before Halloween when a section of Walmart’s site devoted to the holiday was discovered to be labeled “Fat Girl Costumes.”

Upon inspection, it appeared that all of the plus-size adult costumes for women had been aggregated to the category, with more than 20 pages of festive garb — from gothic vampires to Olympic goddesses — falling under the description.

“Not sure labeling these as ‘Fat Girl Costumes’ is the best approach,” Krystyn Washburn tweeted at the company when she discovered the label on Oct. 21.

Walmart’s twitter account replied within the hour. But it was unclear whether the initial response was automated or not.

“Your comments and suggestions are important to us and help make Walmart even better. Thank you. -Nao,” the account wrote.

Six days later, the “Fat Girl Costumes” label was noted to have reappeared on the site.

The category remained until reports were picked up by various media outlets and it was taken down.

“This never should have been on our site,” a spokesperson for Walmart, Ravi Jariwala, told ABC News. “It is unacceptable, and we apologize. We are working to remove it as soon as possible and ensure this never happens again.”
