According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the national average cost of a gallon of regular gas is $3.299 this week, down from $3.354 last week. That figure represents a 5.5 cent dip from last week, and a total of 6.8 cents lower than this date last year.

Gas continues to be cheapest in the Gulf Coast — $3.109 per gallon — and most expensive on the West Coast — $3.61 per gallon. California is once again the most expensive state in which to buy gas, with the average gallon costing $3.666.
