While shaking hands at Central Arkansas University, Clinton told ABC News’ Jeff Zeleny that his new granddaughter Charlotte is doing “wonderful.”

“She’s wonderful,” Clinton told Zeleny, giving him a big thumbs up.

Clinton, who is in Arkansas for two days of campaigning for Democratic candidates this election cycle, briefly shared with voters what it’s like to be a grandfather and why his Arkansas roots are important to him.

“I just became a grandfather, and you care more about the future when you get a kid or grandkid, that’s true,” he said. “But all my life, I thought one of the greatest privileges I ever had was  being born and growing up here, where I was taught not to turn away from anybody because of their race, income or political party, or just because they disagreed with me on something.”
