NFL? SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1412417265750National Football League(DENVER) — The Denver Broncos released veteran kicker Matt Prater on Friday, citing a “football decision”. Prater was scheduled to be activated Monday after serving a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy.

With the move, Denver will put all their faith in Brandon McManus for the remainder of the season. The Broncos acquired the 23-year-old in a trade with the New York Giants, giving up a seventh-round pick in return. McManus has converted all three field goal attempts this year, none longer than 24 yards.

I’ve been very impressed with him, he’s got great potential, he’s a great young kicker,” Broncos head coach John Fox said. “We feel really good, and part of any football decision [is], you go with who you think gives you the best chance.”

The most accurate kicker in franchise history, Prater also holds the league record for longest field goal made, a 64-yard kick in 2013.
