JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) – Town officials in Jackson are preparing to dig a culvert to divert water runoff away from a slow-moving landslide that has been plaguing a neighborhood since last spring.

The goal is to prevent rain and melting snow from loosening up the landslide that has torn off part of one house and complicated access to dozens of other homes.

The Jackson Hole News & Guide reports the work could begin late this month and be completed by Thanksgiving.

Movement of the landslide has slowed to no more than a couple inches per month. But experts worry that snowmelt next spring could cause the slide to speed up again.

Jackson officials are planning long-term measures to try to stabilize the ground but don’t expect to begin that work until next year.
