(POCATELLO, ID) – Enrollment is down in Idaho State University’s teacher education program. Administrators say enrollment dropped 12 percent between 2012 and 2013.

College of Education Dean Deb Hedeen tells KPVI that 90 percent of the program’s graduates become certified in Idaho, but poor paying entry-level jobs aren’t keeping them in the Gem State.

Historically, ISU has struggled with student retention, with only 62 percent of college freshman continuing into their sophomore year, and less than one-third of students graduating within a three to six-year time frame.
