Fort Hall Standoff Costly
Published at | Updated at(FORT HALL, ID) – An 18-hour standoff on the Fort Hall Indian Reservation last month came at a heavy cost.
Bannock County Sheriff Lorin Nielsen tells the Idaho State Journal that the incident cost his department between $15,000 and $20,000. Pocatello Police spent about $3,500. Several law enforcement agencies were called in to assist tribal authorities in apprehending Ray Broncho.
Tribal council member LeeJuan Tyler and others, who came to Broncho’s defense, reportedly called Nielsen and his associates “Indian killers” and other racial epithets, threatening to confiscate their equipment during the standoff.
It is not known if the tribal government will compensate the county and city agencies who responded to the scene at the tribe’s request.
