SALT LAKE CITY (AP) – Salt Lake City will host the national convention for Girl Scouts of the USA starting Thursday.

More than 5,000 people from around the country are expected to gather to discuss the direction of the organization, elect new officials and give girls leadership training.

The organization hosts a convention every three years, and this year some attractions will be open to the public, including a 25-foot treehouse, mini-golf and appearances by female Harlem Globetrotters.

Speakers will include television personality Robin McGraw, former Massachusetts First Lady Ann Romney, Utah activist Elizabeth Smart and NPR host Michelle Norris.

This year’s theme is “Discover, Connect, Take Action: Girls Change the World” and most events will take place at Salt Palace Convention Center. The convention runs through Sunday.
