“Gone Girl,” “Annabelle” Top Weekend Box Office
Published at(NEW YORK) — Mystery thriller Gone Girl led the box office in its first weekend, bringing in $38 million and surpassing expectations.
The film, starring Ben Affleck, doubled Argo‘s opening weekend two years ago. Actors Rosamund Pike, Neil Patrick Harris, and Tyler Perry helped in drawing audiences, which were made up of 60 percent women.
Horror movie Annabelle followed close behind at the number two spot, raking in an estimated $37.2 million. Denzel Washington’s thriller The Equalizer fell from the top to third place this week, with $19 million.
