“Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Maleficent” Inspire Top Halloween Costumes

“Maleficent” – Buena Vista(NEW YORK) — Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy and Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent from the movie of the same name have been named the top male and female movie-inspired costumes for adults this Halloween, according to a new survey of more than one thousand moviegoers by Fandango.

Captain America is the second favorite movie-inspired costume for guys this year, while Jennifer Lawrence’s Hunger Games character, Katniss, is the runner-up for ladies.

Olaf, the snowman in Disney’s Frozen, is this year’s favorite movie-inspired costume for kids.

Here are the top 2014 movie-inspired costumes for Halloween, according to the Fandango survey:

1. Maleficent, Angelina Jolie in Maleficent
2. Katniss, Jennifer Lawrence in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1
3. Mystique, Jennifer Lawrence in X-Men: Days of Future Past
