Hong Kong Wine Auction Breaks World Record with $1.6 Million Sale
Published at | Updated at(HONG KONG) — International broker corporation Sotheby’s set a record wine sale Saturday after selling the world’s most expensive wine lot in Hong Kong for more than $1.6 million, according to the company.
The collection of Romanee-Conti raked in HK $12,556,250, or an equivalent US $1,609,776. The price tag is equal to US $1,700 a glass.
“The Romanee-Conti Superlot presented a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to acquire an unprecedented quantity of the world’s most desirable wine,” said Robert Sleigh, Head of Sotheby’s Wine in Asia.
The previous record, also held by Sotheby’s, was more than $1.05 million for 50 cases of Chateau Mouton Rothschild 1982, sold in New York in 2006.
