And although her evil character was killed off at the end of season two, fans have continued to wonder if she’s really dead.

“She’s definitely taken a hit. She’s taken a seriously bad hit. The creator Jenji Kohan believes she’s dead and she would know,” Toussaint tells ABC News Radio with a laugh, “but I secretly do think [she’s alive.] Now it is Vee. It is Vee.”

Toussaint says she’s humbled that some fans are hoping that she’s not quite dead. “Mostly I’m so flattered and honored that people actually want her to still be alive,” she adds.

“If she is alive I just hope she’s nowhere near my house,” Toussaint quips.

Toussaint, who just wrapped filming Selma in Birmingham, Alabama, said she had no idea her character was so beloved. It wasn’t until she stopped filming the Civil Rights-era film and went back to New York that she realized her fan base.

“I did not know that show was going to be such a huge phenomenon. It really caught me unawares and off guard. I’ve never had construction workers come out of the pit to go, ‘Lady, I just gotta shake your hand. I just gotta shake your hand lady’ and attorneys and judges and students and 13 and 14-year-olds,” she explains.

After wrapping up her guest starring role on Orange Is the New Black, Toussaint is starring in ABC’s new fantasy medical drama, Forever. It airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. Eastern time.
