(HAUSER, ID) – A Washington state man was killed in a freak accident at a northern Idaho corn maze Friday night.

Jeremy McSpadden worked as a zombie actor in the maze’s paintball range. Customers would ride a bus and fire paintballs at the zombies as the vehicle slowly creeped through the maze. Officials say 18-year-old McSpadden, of Spokane Valley, was unintentionally struck by the bus.

Neither speed nor alcohol are considered factors in the accident. The maze in Hauser remained closed through the weekend.

McSpadden was a student at West Valley High School in Spokane Valley. KREM reports teachers will address classes Monday about the death. Crisis counselors will be available.

Principal John Custer says in a school of less than 900 students everyone is connected, and it’s difficult for the staff as well as families.
