Markets Rally from Early Losses Following Positive Unemployment Numbers
Published at | Updated at(NEW YORK) — Wall Street climbed back from early losses to finish the day right around where it began.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average dipped 24.5 to a close of 16,117.24.
The Nasdaq climbed to a finish of 4,217.39, up 2.07 from Wednesday’s close, while the S&P ended the day up 0.27 to 1,862.76.
The Labor Department said on Thursday that unemployment filings last week hit a 14-year low. The number of seasonally-adjusted unemployment benefit claims was 264,000, down from 287,000 the previous week. The last time unemployment filings were this low was in June 2000.
