“I’m just taking everything one day at a time and just being the best person that I can possibly be at the end of the day,” he told Extra at the New York City premiere of the new movie, Addicted, out now.

The America’s Got Talent host has even went so far as to cover up his massive “Mariah” tattoo that covered the width of his shoulders. Cannon said he didn’t mean to reveal he got his tattoo covered up when leaving the gym in Studio City, Calif. earlier this week, a photo that quickly spread online.

“It’s not finished yet…It wasn’t supposed to be revealed yet…I didn’t know [paparazzi] were there, that’s how sneaky paparazzi are,” he said. “I had just gotten it done, it was painful…It hurt a lot and I’m still not finished, I’m still probably like six more sessions away.”

Although the two are estranged, Cannon has nothing but nice things to say about Carey. The singer has recently come under fire after videos were released of her performing at a tour stop in Tokyo, sounding less than stellar.

“I just wish her nothing but the best…you know you might have an off night here and there, but she’s one of the greatest performers and entertainers of all time, she’s not worried, we’re not worried, just going to keep pushing,” Cannon said in Carey’s defense.

Cannon and Carey split in August amid rumors of Cannon’s infidelity. They married in 2008 and have two children together, twins Moroccan and Monroe.
