Patriots Lose Jerod Mayo and Stevan Ridley for the Season

SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1413295983872Comstock/Thinkstock(FOXBOROUGH, Mass.) — The injuries keep coming for the New England Patriots as ESPN reports New England Patriots running back Stevan Ridley and linebacker Jerod Mayo will miss the rest of the season because of knee injuries.

Ridley was a reliable part of the Patriots’ running back rotation along with Shane Vereen. The 25-year-old Ridley has 340 rushing yards and two touchdowns this season and was seen as the more durable running back.

Vereen is more of a pass-catching running back. This season, Vereen has 216 rushing yards and touchdown but has also caught 18 passes for 114 yards.

The Patriots rank 12th in the NFL in total offense.

On defense, Mayo was a key member of the linebacker corps and a leader on defense. In his seventh season in the NFL, all with the Patriots, Mayo has 53 total tackles and 1.0 sacks.

Mayo also played in just six games last season.

New England has the 11th ranked defense in the NFL this season.
