Posey Propels Giants to 3-1 NLCS Lead
Published at(SAN FRANCISCO) — Buster Posey drove in three runs, including the final run of a three-run sixth inning, to lead the San Francisco Giants past the St. Louis Cardinals 6-4 in Game 4 of the NL Championship Series Wednesday night. The Giants now lead the best-of-seven series 3-1. St. Louis took an early 4-1 lead in the third, when Kolten Wong blasted a home run. The Giants climbed back into the game in the bottom of the inning, scoring three runs — the final two coming on a Hunter Pence single to center. Cardinals pitcher Shelby Miller was taken out with two outs in the fourth inning and relieved by Randy Choate, who got Joe Panik to ground out to end the inning. In the sixth, the Giants scored three off Marco Gonzales (L, 0-1, B, 1) to take the lead for good. Yusmeiro Petit (W, 1-0) pitched three innings of scoreless relief to earn the win. The Giants will try to close out the series Thursday in San Francisco. They’ll send Madison Bumgarner to mound to square off against Adam Wainwright. The winner of this series advances to the World Series where they’ll meet the AL Champion Kansas City Royals.
