Ralph Macchio Celebrates 30th Anniversary of “The Karate Kid” at New York Comic Con
Published at(NEW YORK) — One of the stars who made their presence felt at New York Comic Con over the weekend was Ralph Macchio, who celebrated the 30th anniversary of The Karate Kid.
The Karate Kid, released in the summer of 1984, starred Macchio as Daniel LaRusso, a bullied teen who overcomes long odds to win a karate tournament under the tutelage of his mentor, Mr. Miyagi.
Macchio told ABC News Radio the film has a permanent place in pop culture because people can identify with it. He says, “It still resonates and connects with anyone who is a fish out of water, not fitting in. It’s coming-of-age themes that are human and that will always be relatable at some point.”
Macchio adds that there’s a “soulful magic” to The Karate Kid because of his late co-star Pat Morita, who portrayed Miyagi.
