Teachers Union: Tiered Certification Denies Rights
Published at | Updated at(POCATELLO, ID) – Educators around the state are upset about a proposed tiered certification plan for Idaho teachers. Tom VanDeren of the Idaho Education Association tells KIDK that the state wants to evaluate teachers twice per year, with teachers being classified based on the results of their evaluations.
VanDeren says it unfairly pits teachers against teachers and takes away collective bargaining rights at the local level.
State officials counter that it provides performance-based incentives for teachers to enhance their skills in a long-term career path.
