Test Reactor Being Refurbished
Published at | Updated at(IDAHO FALLS, ID) – The Idaho National Laboratory is refurbishing the TREAT test reactor west of Idaho Falls.
The facility, which was built in 1959, has been closed since 1994. The U.S. Department of Energy is spending $75 million to restart the reactor, which uses very little uranium. The INL is enlisting the help for former employees who worked at the facility two decades ago to get it back up and running.
This will be the third active nuclear reactor at the INL.
