For the week ending Oct. 11, the number of people filing for benefits fell to 264,000 — the lowest level for initial claims since April 15, 2000 when it was 259,000, the Labor Department says. Last week’s claims stood at 287,000.

The Labor Department said there were no “special factors” impacting that week’s figures.

The four-week moving average was down as well, falling by 4,250 to 283,500. This average is also at its lowest level in more than a decade. In June of 2000, the four-week moving average was 283,500.
