The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 115.15 to a close of 16544.10.

The Nasdaq slid 102.1 to a finish of 4276.24, while the S&P 500 closed down 22.08, to 1906.13.

Prices on U.S. imports fell by 0.5 percent in September, the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics said. That followed a 0.6 percent decline in August. From June through September, prices on imports fell by 1.4 percent — the largest quarterly drop since the fourth quarter of 2013.
