“We were resilient, continued to fight and believed down until the very end,” Duke coach David Cutcliffe said.

The winning score came from backup quarterback Thomas Sirk, who rushed in from five yards out after the Duke defense held Pitt to a field goal. The Panthers (4-5) had a chance to win the game in regulation, driving inside the Duke 10-yard line. However, kicker Chris Blewitt missed a 26-yard field goal attempt as time expired, sending the game into overtime.

“I have a ton of faith in him,” Pitt coach Paul Chryst said of his kicker, who missed from with 30 yards for just the second time in his career. “We’re going to need him again.”

Both teams traded touchdowns in the first overtime before Pittsburgh took the lead on Blewitt’s field goal in the second overtime. The Blue Devils (7-1) then went 25 yards in four plays, culminating in Sirk’s five yard run to win it.
