Hunter is in his fourth NFL season, all with the 49ers, and his new deal will keep him with the team through the 2015 season.

Back in July, Hunter suffered a torn ACL, ending his season before it ever began. He is expected to recover by the summer when camp opens up.

Hunter was drafted by the team in fourth round back in 2011 and has proven to be a dependable player in limited snaps. Overall he has 1,202 rushing yards on 262 carries, good for a 4.6 average to go along with seven touchdowns.

With age a growing concern as well as impending free agency with starting running back Frank Gore and the possible retirement of Marcus Lattimore, Hunter’s role with the team could expand if given the right opportunity.
