Angelina Jolie Says Directing Hubby Brad Pitt Is ‘Not Easy’

Jason Merritt/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — Angelina Jolie serves as writer, director and star of the upcoming film, By the Sea. It also marks the first time she’s worked with new hubby Brad Pitt since the two tied the knot in August, and she reveals in this month’s issue of DuJour magazine that it presented some challenges for the newlyweds.
“The tricky thing is directing myself and directing Brad,” the 39-year-old actress confesses. “It’s hard, dramatic material, and we’re balancing.”
Jolie adds, “It’s a heavy film, and it’s not easy for us. But even as you struggle through it, you’re in the trenches together and you don’t expect it to be easy.”
“We’re challenging each other,” she tells the magazine, “and that’s a really good thing.”
Although Jolie has hinted in the past that she may retire from acting and focus her attention on directing full time, she sounded less certain when she spoke to Variety recently.
“I’ll do a few more,” she revealed, before noting, “I’m happier when I get to put a camera on another actor and watch them do great work.”
Jolie and Pitt play a troubled married couple who travel the country together in By the Sea, which is set for a 2015 release.
