Ariana Grande, One Direction Among Big Winners at MTV EMAs
Published at(GLASGOW, Scotland) — Ariana Grande had a great night Sunday in Glasgow, Scotland, at the MTV Europe Music Awards.
Grande won two awards during the EMAs telecast: best female, and best song for “Problem.” She opened the show with a performance of “Problem” and another one of her hits, “Break Free.”
One Direction collected three awards — best pop, best live and biggest fans — but was not there to accept in person.
Katy Perry and 5 Seconds of Summer also earned multiple honors. They also did not attend the ceremony.
Aside from Grande, the lineup of performers for the 20th-anniversary EMAs show included Ed Sheeran, Charli XCX, Alicia Keys, Enrique Iglesias, U2 and EMAs host Nicki Minaj.
