The artists names were revealed Friday on ABC’s Good Morning America.

There were initially 10 nominees in the category but the number was narrowed on Friday. Pharrell Williams, John Legend, Eminem, Lorde and Imagine Dragons had also been in the category but failed to get enough votes to put them in the top five.

Fans may vote for their favorite artist either on the AMA website or on the individual artist’s Twitter feeds by clicking the “vote now” button.

The AMAs recognizes artists in a number of categories, including single of the year, favorite artist pop/rock, favorite album/country, top soundtrack and favorite artist/rap/hip-hop.

Nominations are based on key fan interactions reflected in Billboard magazine and on Billboard.com, including album and digital singles sales, radio airplay, streaming and social activity, according to the awards.

The 42 annual American Music Awards will be broadcast live from the NOKIA Theatre L.A. on Sunday, Nov. 23, on ABC. Pre-show live coverage will stream online for fans worldwide starting at 5 p.m. ET on Yahoo.com.
