The surgery was on Gardner’s right rectus abdominis muscle and took place on Oct. 16. The recovery period for the surgery is four weeks, so Gardner should be ready to start his regular offseason program by next week.
The 31-year-old Gardner played in 148 games last season, hitting .256 with 17 home runs, 87 runs scored, 58 RBIs, and 21 stolen bases.
Next season marks the beginning of his four-year, $52 million contract extension with the team.
