Dil-Domine Jacobe Leonares, the founder and CEO of a company called Breakr, said that the hashtag was his work. “We wanted to see how powerful the fangirl demographic was by taking a unknown good-looking kid and Target employee from Texas to overnight viral sensation,” Leonares wrote in a LinkedIn post on Monday night.

So, what did Leonares learn from his “experiment”? He writes that brands, talent agencies, music labels and marketing companies can all take the same lesson from #AlexFromTarget. “If you can earn the love and respect from a global community such as the ‘Fangirl’ demographic — you can rally them together to drive awareness for any cause even if its to take a random kid from unknown to stardom over night,” Leonares’ post reads.

Breakr’s website describes the company as being “at the intersection of communication and content.” The company’s goal is to “[connect] fans to their fandom.”
