Depp slurred and rambled through his introduction for the Hollywood Documentary Award, leading to speculation that he may have been drunk. He was honoring Shep Gordon, the music manager who is the subject of Mike Myers’ documentary Supermensch: The Legend of Shep Gordon — but his speech didn’t go quite as planned.

He started out by commenting on the mic. “That’s the weirdest microphone I’ve ever seen,” Depp said before trying to adjust the stand. “I’m not really good at these things,” he continued, followed by some expletives that were censored.

“I’ve been very lucky to have him in my life. …He’s an incredibly loyal friend,” Depp said of Gordon. “So you have to watch the film. Yeah, there you go. What does that say?” Then he cursed again and said, “It’s just one of those nights.”

CBS rolled footage of the documentary before Depp could do any more damage.

When the video finished, Depp was still on stage, stumbling around. Gordon took the stage and the two men hugged, with Gordon seemingly amused by Depp.

Aside from Depp’s moment in the spotlight, it was a night focused on the winners. Gone Girl took home the top prize — The Hollywood Film Award. The Imitation Game nabbed the most awards overall with four, including best actor for Benedict Cumberbatch and best supporting actress for Keira Knightley. The Fault in Our Stars’ Shailene Woodley received the Hollywood Breakout Performance Actress Award for her role as a teenage cancer patient in the film.

Queen Latifah hosted the 18th annual awards, which were televised for the first time Friday on CBS. A complete list of winners can be found on HollywoodAwards.com.
