It was the eighth straight home win for Miami (5-3) over the Chargers (5-4), who have not won in South Florida since 1982.

The win was an emotional one for Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin, whose father passed away on Friday, causing him to miss two days of practice.

“I really have to give our assistant coaches and our players a ton of credit,” said Philbin. “I kind of just showed up for the game.”

Miami’s defense set the tone, forcing three interceptions and a fumble of Philip Rivers, while Tannehill racked up 288 yards in the win. Tannehill’s three touchdown passes were to three different receivers while Lamar Miller also ran for a score in the Dolphins most lopsided win since 1995.

“We’re scratching the surface,” Philbin said. “We certainly haven’t put it all together yet.”
