Four Killed in Texas Chemical Leak

HPCPHOTO/iStockphoto/Thinkstock(LA PORTE, Texas) — Four people were killed and one remains hospitalized one day after a chemical leak at a DuPont facility in Texas.
On Saturday, a chemical tank containing methyl mercaptan sprung a leak. The chemical, used to give natural gas an odor and for crop protection, is hazardous, though officials said Saturday that the odor given off by the chemical is not.
“There are no words to fully express the loss we feel or the concern and sympathy we extend to the families of the employees and their coworkers,” a statement from DuPont said. The company also acknowledged that it would cooperate with “local, state and federal authorities as they conduct a thorough investigation into the accident.”
