Gas Station in Texas Might Be the Cheapest in the US
Published at | Updated at(SPRING, Texas) — The cheapest gas in the country is apparently in Spring, Texas, for $2.25 a gallon.
At the Phillips 66 station, gas is more than 50 cents lower than the state average. The national average is $2.99, according to the Energy Department’s weekly release, down 27 cents from a year ago.
The owners told ABC station KTRK-TV in Houston the price is set by the company.
To purchase gasoline at $2.25, however, you have to have a free Phillips 66 gift card. Otherwise, it’s $2.35.
The station has been selling the cheapest in GasBuddy’s system for almost a week, said Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst.
He said low prices are frequently attributed to low overhead costs and taxes, when owners pass along savings.
