Derek Cooke, general manager at the Freeport-McMoRan smelter in Globe, said the incident involved molten copper breaching a processing vessel and flowing onto the ground.

The molten copper came into contact with infrastructure, causing fires to break out, Cooke told ABC News.

Local fire crews are working to contain the flames, Cooke said, and the molten material is contained and cooling.

Personnel at the facility — which is located about 90 miles east of Phoenix — have all been accounted for, Cooke said.
