Investigation Finds Faked Research at University

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) – Authorities say an investigation has found faked research at a University of Utah chemical engineering lab.
Investigators looking into allegations of doctored photos found a graduate student manipulated images of microscopic structures called nanorods to make it look like a theory on how to change their position worked.
University of Utah officials say the student was denied his doctorate after the investigation, which cleared the senior author on the study. Apparent fabrication of the photos of the pill-shaped structures attracted attention on social media after the paper was published last year.
The paper has since been retracted.
