Jets Stun Steelers with 20-13 Victory
Published at(EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ) — With fans flying protest signs over the team practice facility early in the week and a white-hot Pittsburgh Steelers team coming into the Meadowlands, no one expected much from the Jets Sunday.
Gang Green surprised everyone when they defeated Pittsburgh 20-13 and took the ball away from the Steelers four times. The Jets had had only three takeaways prior to that on the season.
Michael Vick was efficient, completing 10 of 18 passes for 132 yards and two touchdown passes. Most noteworthy was that Vick became the first quarterback in NFL history to rush for 6,000 yards in his career.
The Jets defense befuddled Ben Roethlisberger for almost the entire game. Roethlisberger entered the game having thrown for six touchdowns in two consecutive games. He didn’t find the end zone until there was 1:16 left in the fourth quarter, when he escaped pressure, extended the play and connected with Martavis Bryant for an 80-yard touchdown.
The big star of the game was Jets safety Jaiquawn Jarrett, who intercepted Roethlisberger twice, recovered a fumble and recorded a sack of Big Ben.
With the win the Jets break an eight-game losing streak and avoid setting a franchise record for most consecutive losses.
