Markets Climb Again Following Positive Unemployment Report

Getty WallStreet?  SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1415312526523iStock/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) — Wall Street saw more gains on Thursday, on the back of a positive unemployment report from the Department of Labor, with two of the major indices setting new all-time highs.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 69.94, finishing at a new record high of 17,554.47.

The Nasdaq jumped 17.75, closing at 4,638.47, while the S&P 500 set its new all-time high close, jumping 7.64 to 2,031.21.

The U.S. Department of Labor on Thursday released its data on last week’s unemployment claims. According to the report, approximately 278,000 claimed unemployment benefits last week — down 10,000 from the previous week. The four-week moving average number of claims reached 279,000 — its lowest figure since April 2000.
