Nearly 200 Fall Ill with Norovirus on Cruise Ship

AlexanderCher/iStockphoto/Thinkstock(LOS ANGELES) — Nearly 200 people on a Princess Cruises ship have fallen ill with norovirus.
According to Princess Cruises, the Crown Princess, scheduled to sail from Tahiti to Los Angeles, was delayed by a day after a crew member suffered a “serious medical condition.” The Crown Princess diverted to a nearby island during the trip — Nuku Hiva in the Marquesas Islands — where the crew member was taken to Los Angeles by helicopter.
The ship did eventually dock in San Pedro, Calif., with 158 passengers and 14 crew members reporting being ill during the voyage.
A total of 3,007 guests and 1,160 crew were onboard the ship. Princess Cruises said it would enact “stringent disinfecting protocols.”
