SALT LAKE CITY (AP) – Authorities say an officer who fatally shot a man in South Jordan over the weekend was testing out a body camera but didn’t have it turned on at the time of the shooting.

South Jordan police say 26-year-old Ty Worthington was killed Sunday during a confrontation in a horse corral. Master Officer Samuel Winkler says Worthington was several houses down from where officers were called to a trespassing report.

Winkler says the officer was wearing a demo camera with limited battery and memory storage that police use sparingly during their shifts.

Winkler says the trespassing call was considered routine and not one during which officers would normally activate the camera.

The name of the officer involved in the shooting has not yet been released.
