Oklahoma’s Perine Breaks Gordon’s Single-Game Rushing Record

SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1416693395460JP Wilson/Replay Photos via Getty Images(NORMAN, Okla.) — Sooners running back Samaje Perine holds the new single-game rushing record after breaking Wisconsin’s Melvin Gordon’s record in Oklahoma’s 44-7 win over Kansas on Saturday.

Perine finished the day with 427 rushing yards on 34 carries and five touchdowns in four quarters of work.

Gordon set the record in last week’s win in the third quarter, but sat following setting the record.

Oklahoma finished with 510 total yards on the ground and quarterback Cody Thomas was 3 for 13 with 39 yards in the air.

Jayhawks quarterback Michael Cummings threw a pick and finished 8 for 22 with 89 yards in the loss.

Kansas only touchdown of the day came on an 11-yard fumble return.

The Sooners improved to 5-3 in the Big 12 and Kansas fell to 1-7 in their conference.
