Shaun Hill returned to the field to complete 20 of 29 passes for 220 yards and a touchdown in his first start for the Rams (4-6) since Week 1.

“It’s a constant process to stay up, especially as a backup, it’s tough,” Hill said. “But it’s something you’ve got to do.”

Greg Zuerlein kicked five field goals, including two from over 50 yards, and the Rams’ defense picked off Peyton Manning twice as the Broncos lose for only the third time this season.

“We didn’t execute very well and I just think I didn’t play very well,” Manning said. “No excuses. I have to play better and we have to score more points than seven.”

Denver (7-3) attempted to get into the game before halftime when Manning threw a 42-yard touchdown to Emmanuel Sanders, moving the Broncos within 6 points. That was the last time Manning would find the end zone, as his streak of 15 consecutive games with at least two touchdown passes was snapped.

Denver did have some unfortunate luck as well. The Broncos lost Julius Thomas (ankle), Montee Ball (groin) and Sanders (concussion) to injuries.

Rams running back Tre Mason had 29 carries for 113 yards in the win.
