Rex Ryan Fined for On-Field Cursing
Published at(FLORHAM PARK, N.J.) — New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan was fined $100,000 Friday by the NFL after cameras caught him yelling profanity after their matchup with the Steelers.
Despite the hefty fine, Ryan made fun of the situation.
“Yeah, I think I was saying thank you,” Ryan joked early in the week. “Emotions run high in games, and sometimes I think its best (that) what happens on the field stays on the field. That’s where it stems from. It’s a very emotional game. Obviously, I have to do a good job of controlling my emotions and things like that. Things happen and I am sorry if I offended anybody.”
According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen the severity of the fine is based around this being Ryan’s third such infraction.
In 2011, Ryan was fined $75,000 for cursing at a fan after the fan yelled “Bill Belichick is a better coach than you.”
In 2010 he was fined $50,000 for flipping the bird to a fan at an MMA event.
