Study: Energy Drinks Dangerous for Young Children
Published at(NEW YORK) — A study presented at a meeting of the American Heart Association found that energy drinks may be extremely dangerous for young children.
According to data from the American Association of Poison Control Centers, more than 40 percent of reports about energy drinks to U.S. poison control centers involved children younger than six years old. The brain and heart were most frequently affected organs.
Steven Lipshultz, M.D., and chair of pediatrics at Wayne State University said that “energy drinks have no place in pediatric diets.”
The data showed 5,156 cases of energy drink exposure, 40 percent of which involved young children who were not expected to be drinking the drinks.
